No. Unfortunately Doula services are not subsidised by Medicare or private health because we are not providing medical care. However, I am fully insured.
I'm a mixed bag of whatever you may need - a Mary Poppins if you will. My heart space is labour and birth - this is where I really come alive. However - I cover antenatal education (non clinical), birth preference planning, practical pre birth planning (what to bring to your birth, etc), labour and birth support. All of these are outlined in my packages.
Please note, I no longer provide post partum support, but can connect you to many wonderful post partum doulas in the Dandenong Ranges and Melbourne.
I meet you where and when it suits. I'm not going to be rigid about timing - I get that life is super busy. We can zoom, if that's easier, or organise a face to face meet. Once we have established a client/doula agreement, the details re: availability are clearly outlined in your contract.
Firstly, I will cry big fat tears.
Birth is not rigid, and because of that, there is a slim chance I could miss a birth. It hasn't happened yet.
Clients can have the option of a backup doula (at your cost). I am happy to negotiate a missed birth reimbursement, however, it would only be a small percentage of your fee, as I have still made adjustments to my own schedule to be on call.
Depending on the reason, we can also negotiate replacement services etc.
Yes, yes, yes. This is your birth, not mine, and I'm not here to tell you and your people how to do things. I'm here to support the doing. Flexibility is key
Control is a word that doesn't belong in birth. Often, it's the whole reason families choose a doula.
My job, is to get to know you and your people, understand your birth intentions, and empower the shit out of you to advocate for yourself and understand your birth rights.
Will I speak up in moments where you or your person can't? Hell yeah, but I am not in control.
Honestly, there are heaps of epic doulas or private practice midwives out there.
Hire me if I'm your fit. Birth is not a.place to curate an experience to 'be' a certain way. I'm not your regular doula.
Women who hire me generally like my honest, ethical, humorous approach. I'm not fancy. I'll Rock up in trackies and a hoodie, and a face void of makeup. But I'll bloody love on you and have your back.
No, I do not. I am not opposed to it, but my skill set is not sufficient to deal with any unforseeables.
I do attend home birth supported by a registered midwife.
